This is my list, but what’s yours?

1. 24 Heures du Mans

Kinja'd!!!

For me it’s the most significant race of every year. Nothing pushes a car like racing hard for 24 hours. LMP1 is constantly pushing the barrier of technology. The multiple classes of cars. The fanfare. The history. For me this is my ultimate automotive dream.

2. Goodwood Revival

Kinja'd!!!

Not the hillclimb, but the revival. A british friend of mine said this is the one to go to. Yes you get to be around the cars and the people at the hillclimb, but here you get to see the cars doing what they were built to do. RACE. Can you imagine actually witnessing the scene above? It’s like reliving history. Amazing.

3. Rennsport Reunion

Kinja'd!!!

Laguna Seca. Porsche’s history-making racecars. The 917 is probably my most favorite car of all-time. I’m not a big fan of their road-going cars, but Porsche has the greatest racing history of any car maker and you get to see those giants out on the track. Can you imagine hearing and seeing the most powerful racecar ever - the Porsche 917/30 - screaming by as it did in its heyday?!

4. 24 Hours of the Nurburgring

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

No track is more devastating than the Nurburgring. I also have a thing for endurance racing. I was lucky enough to go there in 2009 when there was an actual race going on. I do need to go back, however so that I can walk the entire track instead of just half. Also the Germans really know how to enjoy a race.

My favorite shot I took while I was there:

Kinja'd!!!

5. Monaco Grand Prix

Kinja'd!!!

Again, I’m a sucker for nostalgia. Something about all of the excess of Monaco and the premiere autosport just work for me. Also the car-spotting would be quite epic.

So yeah, that’s my list. How about you? What should I do to make my list include 10? haha. (Isle of Man TT is a strong contender btw...)

Kinja'd!!!1

1. 24 hours of LeMans

2. Pikes Peak hillclimb

3. Goodwood Revival

4. Bonneville speed week

5. Indy 500 (been going for 20 years and counting, no plans to stop anytime soon)

3&4 will have to wait until I retire, because they’re far away and take place during the school year. While I do get lots of time of, I do not get to choose when it is (poor me, right?)

1. Monaco (First F1 race I remember watching when I was a teenager

2. 24 Hours of Le Mans

3. Indy 500 (again, I remember watching this when I was young.)

4. Baja 1000 (in a chase helicopter)

5. Stay in Daytona for the 24 hours through the 500. (That’s the only way I could figure out how to see both of those races.)

I was lucky enough to go to the PPIHC when I lived there and for a gearhead, it was pretty great. All-day event but you can’t leave though. I love my mountains here so the view was pretty much as good as it gets while you were waiting for the next badass car to make its way up the mountain :D

Bonneville and the Indy 500 are also great choices. I need to hit those as well.

My only regret is not making it to Pikes Peak before it was fully paved, but thems the breaks.

Indy 500 is a must see, it’s amazing. Hopefully the salt flats still exist in the 25-30 years it’ll take before I can get there.

All awesome stuff you’ve seen. Speaking of the Reno Air Races, have you ever been to Oshkosh? That’s definitely #1 for me in terms of an airshow.

I do have to say that the track is a bit more exciting now that it’s fully paved. Everyone can go balls-out now. It’s also less scary driving up there too ;)

As for the salt flats, if anything there will be more salt flats in the next 20-30 years haha.

Unless I’m in a helicopter, the races I would want to see that are in dirt are difficult to spectate (Baja and Dakar). I also don’t know much about rally... :/

I’ve been to Oshkosh a couple of times. Camped in the antique classic area once. It was awesome. There is maybe a 25% chance I will be going next Tuesday for the day. It is a very cool event.

Cool. I’m hoping to go one year with my dad. He flew F-4's so he loves that stuff. He apparently used to fly with the guy that now flies Fifi, so that’s neat.
